SV Could Be Worse is a capable and proven blue water cruising catamaran designed by Simonis-Voogd Design and custom built by Brent Gray Projects in South Africa. In 2001 She was delivered in 2001 in Cape Town. She has voyaged 40,000 miles from South Africa to Brazil, Southeast Caribbean, NW to Anguilla in Caribbean to the Azores to Portugal/Spain. Then to the Mediterranean as far east as Rome, Italy then north to Cinqueterre and west to the Balearics, Gibraltar, Canaries, Caribbean, Panama, Galapagos, French Polynesia, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, and the US via French Polynesia and Hawaii; thence via the San Juan Islands of Washington, to Alaska and ultimately to San Francisco Bay, California, where she has been based since 2021.

Qualifying Sail Details

We sailed out past the Farralone Islands 80+ miles from San Francisco on May 8, and returned on May 9.  Total distance 170 miles, almost all offshore and under sail.  Crew aboard were Quinton Hoole, Karin Hoole, Dorian Chen and Linda Franklin.
