The Pacific Cup was on new owners Michael Spies Bucket List for many years.Having done 2 X Transpacs the last being in 2013 in his Tripp 40 he wanted the ‘Box Set’.When the opportunity arose to purchase the J160 originally launched as Bushwacker as his forever cruising boat he jumped at the chance.It will be the boats first race in over 25 years ensuring a high pre race workload.The Pacific Cup will be the first leg in getting the boat back to Australia for this years Rolex Sydney Hobart Race which will be Spies’s 48th race South.Assembling a solid crew for the Pacific Cup including noted Designer and former Olympian Scott Kaufman as alternate Watch Captain the team are looking forward to a safe,seamanlike and reliable passage hopefully beating a few of their better credentialed divisional opposition to Kaneohe on corrected time.
